What is KappaKit, exactly? What's its use?
KappaKit is a fume hood equipped with an exhaust fan with an activated carbon filter that captures fumes, fine dust and odours, and at the same time protects your printer.
A hood for the makers - portable, practical, lightweight. Simple and clever, right?
Just place KappaKit on your 3D printer and printing at home or in any enclosed space will no longer be a problem.
KappaKit is an acrylic "box" that is placed on the 3D printer as a hood. The lower part is empty, so it can be easily placed on top of the printer or removed in a few seconds.
On the top side it is equipped with a fan and an activated carbon filter.
When the printer is in operation, simply activate the fan to filter smoke, particles, and odours.
Its body is completely transparent, so you can control how the printing job proceeds when the printer is in operation.
An easy-to-mount kit comprising:
- 5 panels made of transparent acrylic;
- 1 fan;
- 1 activated carbon filter (+ 5 replacement filters);
- Accessories for power supply (cables, connectors, etc.);
- LED lighting.
Installation and Operation
KappaKit is very easy to install and use.
It consists of 5 acrylic panels that are snap-fit mounted and are fixed with small screws.
The fan and the activated carbon filter are fixed on the top panel.
A high-reliability fan. It can be on H24 without any risk of malfunctioning.
The power outlets are on the rear panel.
The 3D printer is connected to the power supply inside of the hood.
The external power cord provides power to all components of the hood: the printer, the fan, and the LEDs.
Before use, a single button switches on the suction fan, the LEDs and the printer.
In the final version of KappaKit:
- there is an opening on each side that allows you to replace the filament or access the printer for any other operation;
- there are 3 separate buttons to activate the suction fan, the LEDs and the printer;
- the size is customizable depending on the printer model.
KappaKit protects not only your health, but also your 3D printer against people, avoiding accidental damage.
With its fan and its activated carbon filter, KappaKit sucks micro particles.

Higher print quality
KappaKit creates a stable environment for the 3D printer in operation, with a constant internal temperature, and a protection against currents that can affect print quality by altering times of solidification of the extruded material.

Transparent or full colour
The standard version is transparent but you can request other colours to better integrate it to your environment. However, the front and back must be transparent in order to control the phases of printing and filament level of consumption.
KappaKit is available in many colours.
Art and Design
With the funds raised we also intend to work on the design of KappaKit, to make it a piece of furniture. The panels will indeed be printed and personalized with prints of photographs, artwork, or any decoration desired by the customer.

Use of Funds
We will use the funds to:
- Buy equipment to produce everything within our company;
- Move from craft production to industrial production;
- By industrializing the in-house production, we want to reduce the costs and the price for the customer;
- Buy a machine for UV printing to print and customize the KappaKit panels with artworks, images, photographs and decorations of various kinds;
- Experiment with other materials for the production.

Our budget for the series production is 6,000 $, to be used for the purchase of equipment, components, materials, testing for future models with custom panels.

Compatible Printers List
KappaKit is compatible with all 3D desktop printers.
But if the internal space of your KappaKit exceeds 50 x 48.5 x 48.25 cm (19.69 x 19.09 x 19 inches), and consequently its total acrylic surface is greater than 1.26 m2 (square meters), you will need to add an extra contribution to the campaign price, that will depend on how much extra material your KappaKit requires.
